Kat Heckenbach

Kat Heckenbach spent her childhood with pencil and sketchbook in hand, knowing she wanted to be an artist when she grew up – so naturally she graduated from college with a degree in biology, went on to teach math, and now homeschools her two children while writing. Her YA fantasy series Toch Island Chronicles is available in print and ebook.

Niecy Dorris

Niecy Dorris is a graduate of Strayer University. She published her first book, Broken Eyes, in November of 2015 followed shortly thereafter by her second book, Dirty Little Secrets, which was released in June of 2016.

Bonnie Paull

Bonnie Paull has devoted her entire professional career to the field of education. She is a professor emeritus in English and the humanities from the College of Alameda in California. In addition to her forty years as a classroom teacher, she has been a dean of students, consultant, writer, researcher and public speaker.

Gay Wasik-Zegel

Gay Wasik-Zegel is a former elementary teacher and media specialist. She and longtime friend, illustrator Lorrie Smith, joyfully collaborated to create her first book, Stop Means Stop! Gay has two grown children, Evan and Mallory. She and her husband, Don, enjoy gardening, walking on the beach, and sharing life’s daily surprises.

E. H. Hong was born and raised in Tampa, FL and has an English degree from the University of Central Florida. She has worked as a technical writer and a teacher. She has always been creative person which led her to write and illustrate her first book, Mom, a Box, and Me. She currently lives in the Hillsborough County area with her husband and daughter.

For Local Writers

The purpose of the local author collection is to support and encourage content creation, entrepreneurial achievement, and community prosperity, and to encourage local authors to meet and share their work and experiences.

Submissions are welcome from local authors that reside in the Tampa Bay area (Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Sarasota, Manatee or Polk County).

Be sure to take a look at the self-publishing resources in the library collection.

Print Book Submissions

  • Authors must submit a physical copy of their book for review along with an Local Author Submission form.
  • Please see the form for guidelines and more information about the process.

eBook Submissions

The following items are required for all local author e-book submissions:

  • A signed copy of the Supplier Agreement
  • A completed Author Worksheet
  • Two versions of your work's cover image (one full-size and one thumbnail)
  • A digital copy of the book itself, in EPUB or PDF format
