Local Author Spotlight - June 2017

Lydia Joyner

By the time Lydia Joyner turned 18 years old, she had 18 social workers, was placed in 35 different foster homes and experienced four failed adoptions. In her newly released book Little Wild Thang - Part I Joyner tells her story through social services documentation, video files, photographs, and diary entries to create an immersive experience that deeply connects with the audience and shows them that no challenge is too great to overcome. Currently, Lydia is an advocate for life, appearing on television and radio and in newspapers and publications, and speaking to groups and organizations throughout the U.S.

Mary Lou Janson

Mary Lou Janson is a Tampa-based freelance writer and public relations professional who has been writing about Florida and the Tampa Bay area since she interned at the Tampa Tribune newspaper while studying journalism at the University of Florida. After graduating from UF, she enjoyed a 10-year career in newspapers where she specialized in business writing during her final five years. Janson later moved to the other West Coast, Berkeley, CA, to become a freelance travel writer and photographer before returning to Florida in 2000. She currently contributes to Tampa Bay Metro, Du Pont Registry and Edible Tampa Bay magazines.

Lynda Lippman-Lockhart

Lynda Lippman-Lockhart, a native of St. Petersburg, Florida, and a graduate of St. Petersburg High School, attended the University of Florida where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. Lynda latter added English Education to her certification through the University of South Florida. She was the director of a nursery school for four years and a high school English teacher for twenty-six. Upon retiring, she began her current career—writing. Lynda honed her writing skills by attending workshops at the University of Iowa, Lesley University, and Eckerd College. Lynda has two children. She and her husband Robert reside in St. Petersburg, Florida.

For Local Writers

The purpose of the local author collection is to support and encourage content creation, entrepreneurial achievement, and community prosperity, and to encourage local authors to meet and share their work and experiences.

Submissions are welcome from local authors that reside in the Tampa Bay area (Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Sarasota, Manatee or Polk County).

Be sure to take a look at the self-publishing resources in the library collection.

Print Book Submissions

  • Authors must submit a physical copy of their book for review along with an Local Author Submission form.
  • Please see the form for guidelines and more information about the process.

eBook Submissions

The following items are required for all local author e-book submissions:

  • A signed copy of the Supplier Agreement
  • A completed Author Worksheet
  • Two versions of your work's cover image (one full-size and one thumbnail)
  • A digital copy of the book itself, in EPUB or PDF format
