Local Author Spotlight - March 2017

Madonna Jervis Wise

Madonna Jervis Wise has a passion for community. Madonna has been an educator and writer for all of her adult life, beginning with a newspaper column in her hometown newspaper called the Cougar Beat. Her latest release, Wesley Chapel: Images of America, involved over 30 interviews with pioneers and/or their descendants including the tracing and examination of original homesteads, tram roads and ranches that were once free range. Her work has been endorsed by the Historic Preservation Advisory Board of Dade City and incorporates contributions from throughout the area.

Miguel Reece

Retired Major Miguel Reece is a veteran with more than thirty years of service in the United States Air Force, both as an enlisted member and an officer. He also had an additional ten years with the Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office, St. Petersburg, Florida in the Public Contact Section as an Investigator/Field Examiner. Having lived in or visited twenty-nine countries in the world provided Miguel Reece the best skills and experiences to serve the veterans’ community. He visited veterans and/or their families where they lived—under bridges, in a tree house, in parks, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, hotels and fabulous homes—everywhere.

Konstantin Ashrafyan

Konstantin Ashrafyan graduated from National University of Science and Technology and worked as an engineer. He and his wife, Svetlana, have visited 70 countries in four continents. Together they published books about the history of ancient Spain, Portugal and the Roman Empire.

Patricia A. McGehee

Patricia McGehee became a writer by contributing feature articles and a column for boating publications. She is the author of two books: Portobelo Chronicles, about Panama’s Spanish Colonial treasure port, and Grains of Salt, a memoir focused on the years she and her husband cruised on a 36-foot sailboat. Pat is a member of the Florida Writer’s Association and attends two writing groups; one at the Hillsborough County Senior Center and the other at the Life Enrichment Center in Tampa, Florida.

Mitchel Fidel

Mitchel Fidel has traveled to nearly all parts of the world, experiencing a full immersion in foreign languages and cultures. He was employed at the Multiversity for Personal Development in India, and his teaching experience has ranged from the Defense Department’s National Cryptologic School to the Nizhoni School for Global Consciousness in Santa Fe. With writing experience behind him that included Top Secret intelligence analysis for the National Security Agency and developmental work for two Hollywood Internet firms, he undertook the Great Puzzle of first century A.D. spirituality, because so much information in that regard had come to light that it was practically begging to be put into the entertaining configuration of a novel. He lives in Tampa.

For Local Writers

The purpose of the local author collection is to support and encourage content creation, entrepreneurial achievement, and community prosperity, and to encourage local authors to meet and share their work and experiences.

Submissions are welcome from local authors that reside in the Tampa Bay area (Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Sarasota, Manatee or Polk County).

Print Book Submissions

  • Authors must submit a physical copy of their book for review along with an Local Author Submission form.
  • Please see the form for guidelines and more information about the process.

eBook Submissions

The following items are required for all local author e-book submissions:

  • A signed copy of the Supplier Agreement
  • A completed Author Worksheet
  • Two versions of your work's cover image (one full-size and one thumbnail)
  • A digital copy of the book itself, in EPUB or PDF format
