More Information About . . . the Upper Tampa Bay Regional Public Library

In November 2000, the Board of County Commissioners approved funding for construction of a 10,000 square foot community library in the Upper Tampa Bay area of Hillsborough County. Additional funding was approved in March 2003 to add 5,000 square feet for a total of 15,000 square feet.

The Countryway Boulevard site for the new library was selected in December 2001. Library staff and the County's Architectural Services Department are currently working with the architectural firm of FleischmanGarcia on design and development of the facility with Angle & Schmidt Inc as the selected builder. Construction began in December 2003.

A $500,000 State of Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services Public Library Construction grant was awarded to the Upper Tampa Bay project in July 2004. The new library offers a full range of services including books, magazines, music and video collections for all ages, Internet access and a variety of programs and activities for children and adults.

Citizens in the Upper Tampa Bay area were active partners in planning the new library and formed a Friends group as well as a Foundation to support the project. The library was dedicated 8 January 2005 at 10am.
