Bookmark Contest – Grades K - 8
Students in grades K-8 are invited to design a bookmark using crayons, markers, colored pencils or paints on the theme of Our Hispanic Heritage: Celebrating Hillsborough’s History and Culture.

Founding Figures of Ybor City - Ybor & Manrara
Monday, October 2 at 6:00 p.m.In 1886, Vicente Martinez Ybor, A Spanish cigar factory owner, moved his business from Cuba to Key West, and later to the sleepy little village of Tampa. By his side was a young Cuban financier, Eduardo Manrara, who became a trusted member of Ybor's firm. Learn how Mr. Ybor, the established Spanish industrialist, and the young Manrara combined their instincts, genius and unique vision to build a thriving cigar industry in Tampa. By 1900, the result was a flourishing section of Tampa called Ybor City, which became "The Cigar Capital of the World."

Participants will learn to create expressive portraits. Includes a live, step-by-step demo. Classes/workshops will be done in both English and Spanish. Recommended for ages 6 - 12.
