Which Card Is Right For Me?

All adult card types can check out print materials and access the Internet in our libraries.

Resident

  • Available to Hillsborough County residents.
  • Cost: free. Valid for 3 years.
  • Also has access to:
    • eBooks, digital materials, and electronic resources
    • Reserve meeting spaces
    • Reserve The Hive equipment
    • Interlibrary loans
    • Reserve items
    • Borrow by Mail
    • Read or Reject
    • Renewal of eligible materials

Non Resident Tax Payer

  • Available to non-Hillsborough County residents and organizations who own property in Hillsborough County. Must provide documentation (such as a property tax bill) verifying their tax-paying status.
  • Cost: free. Valid for 3 years.
  • Also has access to:
    • eBooks, digital materials, and electronic resources
    • Reserve meeting spaces
    • Reserve The Hive equipment
    • Reserve items
    • Renewal of eligible materials

Reciprocal

  • Available to customers of participating libraries.
  • Cost: free. Valid for 3 years.
  • Also has access to:
    • Renewal of eligible materials
  • Cannot access eBooks, digital materials, and electronic resources.

Non Resident

  • Available to non-Hillsborough County residents and organizations outside of Hillsborough County.
  • Cost: $35 annual fee. Valid for 1 year.
  • Also has access to:
    • Reserve meeting spaces
    • Reserve The Hive equipment
    • Reserve items
    • Renewal of eligible materials
  • Cannot access eBooks, digital materials, and electronic resources.

County Employee

  • Available to Employees of a Hillsborough County government and School District of Hillsborough County employees.
  • Cost: free. Valid for 3 years.
  • Also has access to:
    • eBooks, digital materials, and electronic resources
    • Reserve meeting spaces
    • Reserve The Hive equipment
    • Interlibrary loans
    • Reserve items
    • Renewal of eligible materials

Corporate

  • Available to schools, daycare centers, senior citizen homes, and other institutions and businesses in Hillsborough County.
  • Cost: free. Valid for 1 year.
  • Also has access to:
    • Reserve items
    • Extended loan periods
  • Cannot access eBooks, digital materials, and electronic resources.

  • Teen Card

    Can check out children’s materials, Young Adult Fiction, Young Adult Graphic Novels, General Non-Fiction, and Classics.
  • Teen Limited

    Can check out children’s materials, General Non-Fiction, and Classics.
  • Teen Plus

    Can check out children’s materials, Young Adult Fiction, Young Adult Graphic Novels, General Non-Fiction, Classics, and R or non-rated DVDs without access to Adult Fiction.
  • Teen Unlimited

    Can check out all library materials except for loanable technology.

    Can check out only children’s materials recommended for this age range.
  • Child Plus

    Can check out children’s materials, General Non-Fiction, and Classics.
  • Child Unlimited

    Can check out all library materials except for loanable technology.

The Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative affirms a parent or guardian’s right and responsibility to guide their own children’s reading choices. A parent or guardian must visit their local library with a photo ID to get their child a library card. Only parent(s) or guardian(s) listed on the child’s account can make changes to their child’s account.

Apply Online

Adults applying online will receive a temporary card number for 30 days with the ability to:

  • Place holds on physical items in the library's catalog.
  • Instantly download or stream up to 12 digital movies, music, eBooks, or more in Hoopla!

You'll receive an email within 48 hours with instructions to obtain a permanent card with full privileges.

Online applications are available only for adult library cards.

Requirements

Customers must provide identification whenever registering or re-registering for the purpose of verifying name, birth date, and current residential address.

Any pre-existing records you may have will be merged with your new record. You remain responsible for any associated charges or overdue items.

If you are under 17, a parent or legal guardian must fill out the registration form in person at a library location and sign the form.

Renew or Update Your Library Account

Library cards are set to expire periodically and must be renewed in order to allow library staff the opportunity to verify and update card holder registration information.

If your card has expired recently or is about to expire, you can renew it by visiting any of our locations in person with a photo ID and verification of current address. You can also renew via text, please contact us for more information.

Log in to your account online and select My Settings to update your PIN, email address, or phone number.

To update your address, call us at 813-273-3652. Verification of your current address will be required at the next checkout.

To make changes to a Child or Teen card at the time of renewal, a parent or legal guardian must visit a library location in person.

Please bring your completed application to the checkout desk at any branch location.

Reciprocal Borrowing

Reciprocal borrowing is available for members of participating libraries who visit a Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative location with their home library card, photo ID, and verification of current address.

Reciprocal borrowers cannot access eBooks, digital materials, and electronic resources and place holds on items.
