Port Tampa City Library Restoration Project

The library experienced flooding and roof damage due to Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. This damage has caused delays to the original restoration project. We anticipate the library reopening Spring of 2026.

Update April 2026

  • New cabinets have been installed.
  • New bookshelves have been installed.
  • New carpet on the 2nd floor has been installed.
  • The staff workroom is completed.
  • Ongoing renovations in the public restrooms.
  • Crews will complete final repair tasks, finish floor repairs, and install track lighting.
  • Meanwhile, landscaping, and outdoor cleanup progress steadily.
  • The branch will begin receiving its collection.
  • Technology installation and art rehanging will be completed.

Restoration Project Overview

  • Sealing of the exterior of the building to prevent further moisture intrusion
  • Mold remediation
  • Restoration from mold remediation
  • Complete restoration from hurricane water damage
  • Complete elevator cab repair
  • Remove built-in bookshelves to access, replace, and repair data cabling and HVAC ducts
  • Reinstall bookshelves once data cabling and HVAC repairs are complete
  • Seal pipes
  • Pending ceiling repairs, including plaster repair work
